 January 2013

"Taada Gaawdla guudang 'laa"!
~Haida for "Happy New Year!"

We hope that the first Bluewater Adventures ENEWS of 2013 greets you after a warm holiday season spent with family and friends. Following a brief break, we are back at it with great anticipation about the coming season!
January always brings excitement to Bluewater. It is a time when we switch gears and start planning for vessel maintenance, Bluewater School Programs and our season opener in amazing Haida Gwaii!

BIG news - Island Roamer is currently having both engines replaced! After 30 years of service, these engines are being replaced by a cleaner-burning pair of engines that run on less fuel, helping Bluewater to continue on its path to reducing its carbon footprint.

Captain Tom and 1st mate, Mike, steady Island Roamer's 2nd engine.

The Gwaii Haanas Legacy Pole

In November 2012, The Legacy Pole was unveiled at the Haida Heritage Centre to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Gwaii Haanas Agreement between the Haida Nation and the Canadian Government and the successful joint management of this amazing archipelago.
Travel with Bluewater Adventures to Haida Gwaii and meet the carvers, Jaalen Edenshaw and Tyler York, and witness carving in process at the Haida Heritage Centre until until its raising August 15, 2013. It has been 130 years since a totem pole has been raised in Gwaii Haanas - the Legacy Pole location has yet to be revealed. Photo- Courtesy of Parks Canada/J Shafto
